NCAA Tournament Pool

NCAA TOURNAMENT POOL STANDINGS

We had a ridiculously exciting Round 2 of the NCAA Tournament, complete with 3 double digit seeds advancing to the Sweet 16, and 4 upsets worthy of bonus points.  Those upsets were Dayton over Syracuse, Connecticut over Villanova, Stanford over Kansas and Kentucky over Wichita State.  We had people that selected each of those upsets and gathered bonus points.  Our second day leader – Cesar Gonzalez, had both the Dayton and the Connecticut picks.  Yes, he had DAYTON in the Sweet 16.  He also still has 7 of his final 8 alive, with his only miss being that he had New Mexico coming out of the South regional.  Also selecting Dayton was Carolyn Fowler and Alex Sotelo.  Kudos also go to Train Zimmerman and his brother Mango Merchant, who were the only two that selected Stanford over Kansas.  More than several had Connecticut over Villanova, but much fewer than expected had Kentucky over Wichita State.  SUCKERS!!!

A special mention to Hannah Sosa and Justin Yung, both of whom selected the vaunted Harvard Crimson to defeat the trendy pick Michigan State Spartans.  The boys from the Ivy League almost pulled out the victory, and I must admit that I have never been more excited for cheering against my national champion pick.

As for the bracket busters, we lost 4 more champions, with Wichita State, Kansas, Villanova and Syracuse going down.  Several had each of those, but the second day leader that lost each was Carolyn Fowler (Wichita State), George Walks 5 (Kansas), Rich Samuels (Villanova) and Eric Inge (Syracuse).  Eric Inge took the loss particularly well, saying simply, “Just burn my bracket”!

Lots of big matchups this week, but the biggest, by far, seems to be Virginia v. Michigan State, as the pool is roughly equally split between those two teams.  That should be the game the separates the eventual winners from the rest.

Further updates will continue this week with listings of final four and champion picks, and, if I have time, the divisional scoring leaders.  Remember to go to WeMakeItRain.blogspot.com for all of your scoring updates.

Once again – please check my math and let me know if you have any questions.

Congratulations again to Cesar Gonzalez – who maintains sole possession of first place as of the end of the second round.
